Would you ever take my pets into your own home?
  • I wish I could but the City of Atlanta says that’s illegal because my home isn’t zoned for kenneling.
    Are you bonded?
  • Bonds usually require that a person be convicted of the crime before the bonding company would make a payment to a customer. I’m insured through Pet Sitter’s Associates with a plan that includes a special personal property endorsement, which provides broader coverage and includes losses such as breakage, destruction, mysterious disappearance and loss caused by theft from the customer’s premises. Is pet sitting better than boarding?
  • Nope! You might think I would say so, since my livelihood depends on it. But I believe that pet sitting and boarding are very different and that both have their pros and cons. Only you can know what is right for your pet(s).
  • Having worked in two doggie daycares, I think pet sitting is best for pets who prefer their home environment to new surroundings, are older or “intact,” have social anxiety and other special needs, and pets that tend to be very submissive. Pet parents might like that their pets and their home are looked after at the same time with a pet sitter, and that their pets will be waiting for them when they get home, no matter what time the plane gets in or traffic keeps them.
  • But some pets, usually dogs, genuinely love meeting new folks and exploring new environments. When we go out of town, our two most energetic, bossy, and attention-greedy dogs go to Camp Woof, while the other two, who are older, crabbier, and generally less social, stay home with a pet sitter who also looks after our cats.  Sugar Sugar wholeheartedly endorses Camp Woof as our daycare and boarding facility of choice in Atlanta!
My dog loves to go to the dog park. Will you take her there while I’m gone?
  • No, but I will take her on a leash for some exercise or out in the fenced backyard for some fun one-on-one playtime. Because there’s always an element of surprise with animal behavior, I don’t ever allow dogs off-leash outside of the house.
My pet needs to go to the vet but I can’t take off work to take him there. Can you take him?
  • Sure can! I provide pet taxi services at $20/hour, billed from pick-up to drop-off
My plane is running late or I’m scheduled to return after my boarding facility closes and I really want my animals home when I get there. Can you pick them up for me?
  • Sure can! First, you’d have to make sure your boarding facility will allow me to pick up your animals. Then you should arrange payment with them, make sure I have your key, and notify me when this need arises. Pet taxi rates apply. I may not always be available last-minute, so the sooner you know you’ll need this service and schedule it, the better!
What kinds of payment do you accept?
  • Currently I accept cash, money orders, and checks. I hope to begin accepting credit cards soon.
What happens in the event of extreme weather?
  • Well, extreme weather in Atlanta rarely does much more than cause a run on bread and toilet paper at Kroger. But rest assured, I have a four wheel drive vehicle that will get me to your house in wind, rain, sleet, or snow—or the occasional ice patch we most commonly experience here.
Do you have back-up sitters if you get sick?
  • I’m a fairly healthy person but I do have a few folks who I trust to take over for me in the event that I’m briefly incapacitated. Should the need arise, I would notify you immediately and allow for you to make other arrangements if you prefer to do so.

    What’s with all the tattoos?
  • Fair enough--I know they can be a little distracting. I started getting tattooed at 18 as a means to deal with body image problems that had plagued me since childhood. Nearly a decade and lots of ink later, I’ve got a tattoo for my mother, one for my dogs, one for Ms. Dolly Parton, and quite a few others, all inspired by or emblematic of something important in my life. But to paraphrase one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies: “I swear to you, my personal tattoos will not interfere with my ability to do good pet care.”
